Sealing strip tpe extrusion profiles are very important components in doors, windows, and curtain walls. A good rubber strip must have excellent resistance to sunlight, UV aging, ozone aging, heat and oxygen aging, as well as high and low temperature resistance and rain resistance. Thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) have gradually become an ideal material to replace both rubber and plastic due to their combined physical and mechanical properties with the processing characteristics of plastics in recent years.

TPE sealant strip has superior properties such as high elasticity, aging resistance, and oil resistance compared to traditional cross-linked vulcanized rubber. It also has the characteristics of wide processing methods and secondary recycling.

The hardness of the soft rubber strip is around 65A, with a permanent deformation of 40% and a melt index (190 ℃, 10kg) of 30g/10min at 70 ℃ and 24h compression.

Regarding whether TPE and TPR are the same material. To some extent, TPE and TPR can be regarded as the same material, with only a difference in terminology. In general, some users in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Zhejiang are accustomed to calling it TPR.

According to some industry colleagues, TPE is more high-end than TPR, which is generally applied in traditional industries such as toys, shoe materials, and daily necessities; Electronic products, cable communication, and the medical industry are mostly referred to as TPE

Furthermore, the material manufacturer stipulates that TPE and TPR belong to styrene based thermoplastic elastomer modified elastomer materials, with TPE based on SEBS substrate modification and TPR based on SBS substrate modification.

The author believes that the differences between TPE and TPR, whether they are a type of material, industry differences, and different names for material suppliers are only differences in naming habits. The author tends to believe that, in addition to the broad concept of TPE, within the styrene based elastomer blend system, TPE and TPR are basically the same material, and the main difference lies in their nomenclature.
