Engineering plastics PC plastic raw materials are widely used

PC plastic material, the Chinese name is polycarbonate is widely used in: Optical lighting: used to manufacture large lampshades, protective glass, left and right eyepiece tubes of optical instruments, etc., and can also be widely used as transparent materials on aircraft. Electronic appliances: Polycarbonate is an excellent E (120°C) grade insulating material, which is used in the manufacture of insulating connectors, coil frames, sockets, insulating sleeves, telephone casings and parts, battery casings for miner’s lamps, etc. It can also be used to make parts with high dimensional accuracy, such as optical discs, telephones, electronic computers, video recorders, telephone switches, signal relays and other communication equipment.

Polycarbonate thin films are also widely used as capacitors, insulating bags, audio tapes, color video tapes, etc. Mechanical equipment: used to manufacture various gears, racks, worm gears, worms, bearings, cams, bolts, levers, crankshafts, ratchets, as well as some mechanical equipment shells, covers and frames. Medical equipment: cups, cylinders, bottles that can be used for medical purposes, as well as dental instruments, drug containers and surgical instruments, and even artificial organs such as artificial kidneys and artificial lungs. Other aspects: used as hollow rib double-wall panels, greenhouse glass, etc. in construction; used as textile bobbins, textile machine bearing bushes, etc. in the textile industry; daily use as milk bottles, tableware, toys and models, etc.

Almost all PC plastic materials (polycarbonates) used as plastics contain bisphenols. Their color reaction with p-methylaminobenzaldehyde or the Gibss indophenol test gives correct results for identification.

PC plastic raw material (polycarbonate) will be completely saponified when heated in 10% potassium hydroxide ethanol solution for a few minutes. During the reaction, potassium potassium carbonate is precipitated, filtered and acidified with dilute sulfuric acid to release carbon dioxide gas. Barium carbonate precipitates when barium hydroxide solution is added.

Even if the PC plastic raw material encounters very low moisture, it will be hydrolyzed and the bond will be broken, the molecular weight will decrease, and the physical strength will decrease. Therefore, before the molding process, the moisture content of the PC plastic material should be strictly controlled below 0.02% to avoid the reduction of the mechanical strength of the molded product or the abnormal appearance of bubbles and silver streaks on the surface. In order to avoid abnormal situation caused by moisture, PC plastic raw materials should be dried by hot air dryer for more than three to five hours before processing, and the temperature should be set to 120℃, or the moisture should be treated by dehumidification dryer. The air should have a dew point of -30°C at the entrance of the funnel.

Usually melt index between 5 to 25g/10min can be suitable for injection molding. However, the optimal processing conditions are quite different due to the type of injection molding machine, the shape of the molded product and the specifications of PC plastic raw materials, which should be adjusted according to the actual situation.
