“I” is a polymer chemically composed of acrylonitrile A, butadiene B and styrene S, which is called ABS for short. Each monomer has different characteristics. In terms of morphology, ABS is an amorphous material. This determines that “I” has many characteristics, such as low temperature resistance, impact resistance, appearance characteristics, low creep, excellent dimensional stability and ease of processing. Moreover, the surface hardness is high and the chemical resistance is good. At the same time, by changing the proportion of the above three components, various properties of “I” can be changed. Therefore, “I”, as a member of engineering plastics, has a wide range of uses. Synthetic ABS can be divided into four types: medium impact type, high impact type, ultra-high impact type and heat resistant type.
With the adjustment of the proportion of the three components, the physical properties of the resin will change to some extent: 1,3-butadiene can provide “I” with low-temperature ductility and impact resistance, but too much butadiene will reduce the hardness, luster and fluidity of the resin; Acrylonitrile provides “I” with hardness, heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance and other chemical corrosion properties; Styrene can provide “I” with hardness, processing fluidity and product surface finish.
Basic properties of ABS:

The raw material of ABS is light yellow or milky white granular material with certain toughness, and the density is about 1.04~1.06 g/cm3. It has strong corrosion resistance to acid, alkali and salt, and can also withstand organic solvent dissolution to a certain extent.

ABS resin can perform normally under the environment of – 25 ℃~60 ℃, and has good formability. The processed product has smooth surface and is easy to dye and electroplating. Therefore, it can be used for household appliances, toys and other daily necessities. The common Lego building blocks are ABS products.
